Snacks are an integral part of the Indian cuisine. Nashta and farsan are a few colloquial terms used for this wonderful food portion. Eaten generally between two big meals, this category has thousands of options to offer. However, our criteria for eating food changes during the winter. We want something hot, comforting and easy to cook. Nilons brings to you a few winter snack recipes which will definitely make you squeal ye dil maange more.
1) Masala Nuts: In a kadhai deep fry almonds and cashews individually till crisp. In a bowl mix garlic powder, chilli powder, castor sugar, onion powder, salt and chaat masala. Mix the ingredients well and sprinkle the mixture evenly on the warm-fried nuts. Eat once cool.
2) Cheese stuffed Aloo Bonda: Make a thick besan batter and add salt and turmeric to it. Whisk, till it’s light and fluffy. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and onion to it. Once golden brown, add asafoetida, green chilli, ginger, turmeric and salt. Saute for a few minutes and add mashed potatoes to the pan. Mix and saute the ingredients well for a couple of minutes. When it cools down a little, make balls of potato and put small cubes of mozzarella cheese in the centre. Dip the balls in batter and deep fry. Serve with Nilons Snack sauce.
3) Caramel Popcorn: In a pressure cooker, add butter and let it heat. Add corn kernels to the butter and mix well while adding brown sugar. Shake it well. Cover the pressure cooker by inverting its lid. Remove from the flame when popping stops.
4) Onion Rings: Slice onion into rings and separate them. Only the big rings are required for this dish. Make a thick batter with cornstarch, refined flour, salt, white pepper powder, oil and baking powder. Whisk the batter for 8-10 minutes. Cover the onion rings with this thick batter and deep fry. Serve hot with Nilons Schezwan chutney.
